The TRT as a predictor of attrition from therapeutic services at a youth programThe predictive qualities of the Negative Treatment Indicator scale from the MMPI-2 were examined in responses from a group of predominantly Hispanic clients at a community-based program for inner city youth. All participants were asked to complete the MMPI-2 prior to starting outpatient psychotherapeutic services. The Negative Treatment Indicator was used to predict which clients would drop out of treatment prematurely. The study compared response sets based on the participants' ethnicity and gender. The study did not find significant differences when comparing the TRT scores of different ethnic groups or between male and female participants. With respect to differences in TRT score between those who terminated treatment prematurely and those who completed treatment, the study was able to show that the former group not only scored at a clinically significant level, but that they scored significantly higher than those who completed treatment.
