Dr. Auke Tellegen received a Ph.D. in personality psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1962 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1963. He was a professor in the Department of Psychology from 1968 to 1999, when he became Professor Emeritus.

He has published on the assessment of mood, personality, hypnotic responsiveness, and psychopathology.  Dr. Tellegen serves as psychometric consultant to the University of Minnesota Press, and is co-author of the MMPI-2-RF (Restructured Form), MMPI-2 and MMPI-A, and author of the MMPI-2 Restructured Clinical (RC) Scales.
