Assessment for treatment planning: An instructive guide
Reviews the book, Personality assessment in treatment planning: Use of the MMPI-2 and BTPI by James N. Butcher and Julia N. Perry (see record 2008-02498-000). This compact volume is a book that illuminates the way in which psychotherapists may benefit from employing current personality assessment strategies before, during, and at the conclusion of psychotherapy. A substantial portion of the book is devoted to an overview of the MMPI-2 and the Butcher Treatment Planning Inventory (BTPI). Readers of every background will find something of value in the superb chapter on providing feedback to clients. Novice evaluators are uneasy about delivering feedback, while many veteran evaluators may have become jaded or perfunctory about this important process. This book should have a wide audience. Trainers will find it useful as an adjunct text in a personality assessment course or in an advanced course on psychotherapy. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2009 APA, all rights reserved)
