Using the MMPI-2 in Clinical Cases From Diverse Settings(from the chapter) The primary goal of this chapter is to illustrate with clinical examples how the MMPI-2 can effectively describe personality and behavior over a broad range of clinical cases. In addition, patients from different cultural backgrounds tend to produce interpretable MMPI-2 patterns, even though the instrument was not initially developed for those populations. The interpretations generalize well because they are based on a common core of symptoms and behaviors that are central to a number of clinical problems that appear similar, regardless of culture. The author also examines some computer-based interpretive reports on a few patients to illustrate how automated interpretation involves the objective application of standard interpretations to test indices.
