Big Belching Bog by Phyllis Root and with illustrations by Betsy Bowen received an Honorable Mention at the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards at the ceremony that took place on Thursday, May 19 in Duluth, MN.

NEMBA was established in 1988 to recognize books that substantially represent northeastern Minnesota in the areas of history, culture, heritage, or lifestyle.

In Big Belching Bog, Phyllis Root lets us in on the secrets of the mysterious bog, describing such special inhabitants as plants that eat insects, bog lemmings, and frogs that stay frozen through the winter and thaw out in the spring. This book will stir the imagination of young readers and teach them about the landscape and environment of these fascinating places.
