The Circle: If you want stark clarity and unbridled truth, read these essays

The book stared back. I opened it, started to read and could not put it down. Dear reader, if you like hearing the words of language masters, if you seek hope, or want to walk in the shoes of another, if you want stark clarity and unbridled truth, read these essays.

A brilliant and rich gathering of voices on the American experience of this past year and beyond, from Indigenous writers and writers of color from MinnesotaThe book stared back. I opened it, started to read and could not put it down. Dear reader, if you like hearing the words of language masters, if you seek hope, or want to walk in the shoes of another, if you want stark clarity and unbridled truth, read these essays.

The book, published by the University of Minnesota Press, grew from the first five years of More Than A Single Story (www.morethanasinglestory.com), a series of panel discussions and public conversations in the Twin Cities that Holbrook created to offer a platform for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color writers and arts activists to discuss issues of importance in their own words and their own voices. The nearly three dozen essays and works of poetry include bylines by writers known nationally as well as those who are emerging. The many voices blend to create a powerful statement about justice in America, the way history noisily frames today’s events and hope. (This paragraph edited from the original story.)
