The story of its golden age from the late 1940s until the 1970s -- dominated by names like Sperry Rand and Univac, Control Data and Cray Research -- has been told before, but in piecemeal fashion. Now, Minnesota's role in the rise of computing gets the thoughtful and big-picture attention it deserves in an impressive book by Tom Misa.
