MinnPost: How to eat like Will Steger

“The Steger Homestead Kitchen: Simple Recipes for an Abundant Life,” is a cookbook, yes, but one that addresses climate change and environmental problems by offering good food using local, organic ingredients that don’t create a lot of waste.

Personal and simple, earthy and warm—recipes and stories from the Steger Wilderness Center in Minnesota’s north woodsWoven into the recipes are writings from Steger and Dooley, who Steger says helped bring his and Rita Mae’s voice through the pages.  “She was the glue that kind of held to make the matrix,” Steger says.

Ultimately, Steger hopes the book will encourage people to cook mindfully, with a simplicity that will help the planet. “We hope to encourage people to cook more for themselves and for their families,” he says. “It’s about not contributing to the global warming catastrophe that we’re in right now.”
