How has the idea of the Orient influenced Hollywood films?
Dr Jane Park has a PhD in Radio-TV-Film from The University of Texas at Austin and a MA in English from the University of California, Irvine and previously worked at the University of Oklahoma. She has published essays on a variety of topics, including mixed-race Hollywood actors, Japanese-American hip hop, and Korean romantic comedies. Dr Park's first book was published in the US last year and was recently and launched in Australia. It is entitled "Yellow Future: Oriental Style in Contemporary Hollywood Cinema" (University of Minnesota Press) and it examines the ideological role of Asiatic imagery in US films from the 1980s to the present.
