Beth Dooley: Eating locally by the seasons

The Mix features Beth Dooley and her cookbook, THE NORTHERN HEARTLAND KITCHEN.

Dooley_NorthernBeth Dooley is someone whose name you probably already know well. Besides being a regular contributor to the Mix, she’s also a cooking instructor, restaurant reviewer and cookbook author. Her latest book is called The Northern Heartland Kitchen and builds on the subject matter of her previous title, Savoring the Seasons of the Northern Heartland, which she co-authored with Twin Cities chef Lucia Watson in 2004.

So with such an impressive rèsumé it’s not surprising that cooking is something that’s always been her passion and that writing a cookbook was a lifelong dream.

Dooley, a New Jersey native, moved to the Twin Cities 25 years ago and now shares her talent and love for all things food with local students at both The Lake Country Land School in Minneapolis and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

One thing she loves to do is talk to local chefs to find out just what influenced their style of cooking, and how the dishes they create can be adapted for the home cook.
