EXPLORING THE ST. CROIX RIVER VALLEY We Are Water MN event at North Branch Area Library with Minnesota Humanities Center and Angie Hong

Angie Hong will join the North Branch Area Library at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, for a presentation on her new book Exploring the St. Croix River Valley: Adventures on and off the Water, in conversation with Tom Anderson. This event is part of We Are Water MN, a traveling exhibit and community engagement initiative that explores the science, history, story, culture, and relationships of water in Minnesota. It is led by the Minnesota Humanities Center, in partnership with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and multiple statewide agencies.

From headwaters to tributaries, Exploring the St. Croix River Valley is a comprehensive guide to the St. Croix Riverway and its 8,000-square-mile watershed. As readers learn about the landscape, its history, and the local flora and fauna, environmental educator Angie Hong recommends specific places to explore the varied habitats—including prairies, forests, and lakes—and shares countless ways to get out and enjoy them.

Angie Hong has been a conservation educator for more than twenty years. As coordinator for Minnesota’s East Metro Water Education Program, she works with thirty local government partners to implement education programs focused on teaching and inspiring communities to protect water resources. Her tips and tales about keeping water clean are featured regularly in columns in the Stillwater Gazette, Forest Lake Times, and other Minnesota newspapers, as well as online at eastmetrowater.org.
