NEVER TRUST A THIN COOK pasta-making lesson at Bakehouse with Eric Dregni
January 25 @ 10:00 am
Eric Dregni will join the Fargo Sons of Norway for a pasta-making lesson and presentation on his book Never Trust a Thin Cook and Other Lessons from Italy’s Culinary Capital on Friday, January 25 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Registration required.
In Vikings in the Attic, Eric Dregni tracks down and explores the significant—often bizarre—historic sites, tales, and traditions of Scandinavia’s peculiar colony in the Midwest. Dregni reveals the little-known tales that lie beneath the surface of Nordic America and proves by example why generations of Scandinavian-Americans have come to love and cherish these tales and traditions so dearly.
“A delightful chronicle of three years of eating in Italy.” —Star Tribune
“It’s a journey of gastronomical proportion, but it is also an exploration of cultural differences, awkward ‘lost in translation’ moments, and charming, homeless drunks who direct traffic and can speak eloquently on local history.” —City Pages
“Dregni’s essays easily and deftly draw the reader into the rhythm of his Italian community—a trait he shares with Frances Mayes (Under the Tuscan Sun), although readers will find him rather more attuned to the quiet humor of the everyday. This witty and evocative culinary memoir will appeal to food lovers, those interested in Italy and Italian culture, and anyone who enjoys a good travel narrative.” —Library Journal
