The Use of Books and Libraries

Authors:

Harold G. Russell, Raymond H. Shove, Blanche E. Moen, and Frederick Wezeman

The Use of Books and Libraries was first published in 1933. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions.

This is the tenth edition, revised, of the books of the same title by Harold G. Russell, Blanche E Moen, and Raymond H. Shove. A guide to reference books, it is intended primarily for use in courses in library instruction for college undergraduates. The material in this edition has been reorganized for more convenient use, following in general the arrangement in general of Constance Winchell’s Guide to Reference Books, the major reference guide in English. This new edition lists as main entries some 440 reference books and other bibliographical aids, as compared with about 315 such entries in the previous edition. Additional titles mentioned in annotations have been increased from 75 to 165.

Raymond H. Shove and Frederick Wezeman were associate professors in the library school at the University of Minnesota.

Blanche E. Moen was the chief reference librarian at the University of Minnesota library.

Harold G. Russell was assistant director of libraries at the University of Minnesota.
