Dr. Graf, who gained his early musical training in his native Vienna, had been associated with the “Met” since 1935. Besides serving as stage director, he was the artistic director of the Metropolitan Opera Association’s television department. He was also director of the opera department at the Curtis Institute of Music and had been guest stage director for numerous opera festivals here and abroad.
