Politics the Wellstone Way

Wellstone Action is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization founded by Mark and David Wellstone to continue their parents' work. The mission of the organization is to educate, advocate, and organize for progressive change.

With nearly 100,000 members, Wellstone Action is a major national source of political training and leadership development. Through Camp Wellstone and other programs, Wellstone Action teaches people across the country the basics of grassroots political action, drawing from Paul Wellstone's successful approach. The organization also works to build the progressive movement, push for change, and champion the issues for which the Wellstones fought so passionately.

Much of the material in this book is based on the curriculum of Wellstone Action's unique training program, Camp Wellstone. Camp Wellstone is a weekend-long (two-and-a-half-day) intensive program that teaches Paul Wellstone's distinctive approach to organizing and grassroots politics. It is for people interested in citizen activism, working on campaigns, or running for office. More than seven thousand people have attended the camps in twenty-five states. Wellstone Action has also introduced Campus Camp Wellstone, a specialized training for college students on campuses across the country.
