Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Do the workshops allow me to administer and interpret the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A?
The Basic Interpretation of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A workshops provide introductions to the instruments for individuals who have limited or no experience with them. The primary goal of the workshops is to provide a rationale for the use of the instruments in clinical assessment and to summarize the interpretive literature, including behavioral correlates of the clinical, content, and supplementary scales, and of code types. Attendance at workshops sponsored by Kent State University and coordinated by the University of Minnesota Press may help you meet the user qualifications necessary to purchase MMPI instrument test materials from Pearson Assessments.

What qualifications are needed to attend the MMPI-2/A Workshops?
To attend the MMPI-2/MMPI-A workshops, an individual must have one of the following qualifications:

  • Licensure to practice psychology independently.
  • A graduate degree in psychology or a closely related field (such as psychiatry or social work)
  • Enrollment in a degree program in psychology or a closely related field, such as psychiatry or social work.

Can I purchase the test materials after taking this workshop?
To purchase test materials from Pearson Assessments, please review the user qualifications.

Can I receive audiotapes of the workshops instead of attending?
We currently do not record our workshop sessions.

Can I purchase the workshop course materials without attending a workshop?
Handouts are provided for all workshops to individuals registered for the courses. We do not sell course materials to individuals not attending the workshops.

How can I receive more information about future workshops?

Are discounted workshop registrations available?
We currently offer a 25% discount to graduate students when they provide proof of enrollment (copy of current fee statement and copy of student identification). Early registration is also available at a discount as indicated in the registration section of our brochure. All mailed in registratio
ns must be postmarked by the Early Registration deadline given in the brochure in order to receive the discounted rates.

What is the cancellation policy?
You may cancel your registration up to 15 business days before the first day of the workshop and obtain a refund of your registration fee, less a $50.00 administration-processing fee. For cancellations made less than 15 business days prior to the first day of the workshop, 50% of registration will be refunded. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop if necessary. If the workshop is cancelled, registrants will receive a full refund of the registration fees paid to the University of Minnesota Press.

Can I register online?
We currently do not have the capabilities to offer registration online. If you are interested in registering for an upcoming MMPI-2/MMPI-A workshop, please print out the registration form and fax or mail it in with your payment.

What's the difference between a workshop and a symposium?
Workshops provide basic or advanced instruction in the interpretation of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A, including sessions focusing on the use of the instruments in specific settings such as forensic and personnel. The Annual Symposium provides an opportunity for MMPI-2/MMPI-A researchers to present results of research studies on the instruments either in formal oral presentations or in poster sessions. Presentations are invited via a Call for Papers.

If I am interested in a topic not covered in current workshop offerings, can I suggest that it be included in future programs?
Yes, by contacting our office at 612-627-4821.

Is there an MMPI-2/MMPI-A home study course available?
No, we currently do not provide home study courses for the MMPI-2/MMPI-A workshops.
