GARBO'S PRIVATE LIFE
________________

Greta Garbo was born Greta Gustafson on September 18th, 1905.

Greta raised strawberries for market in a family garden on the outskirts of Stockholm. She would rise early to hoe and water them but the neighborhood boys would steal them. Undaunted, she sized up a tiny wooden toolshed on the family plot and many a night slept there to guard her fruit. She then picked the berries herself, took them to market, and proudly came home with the money.

As a child, Greta ran away from home three times.

Greta loved certain German words, including vervalos, "slavonly".

Ligonberry jam was her favorite Swedish delicacy.

British spy chief William Stephenson maintained that Garbo identified important Nazi collaborators in Stockholm to British agents there.

In 1958, Garbo and Winston Churchill played cards on Aristotle Onasis's yaught in the Monaco harbor.

Garbo's friend Sam Green discovered that Garbo kept trolls under her couch. Upon discovery, he never mentioned it to her, but continued to check underneath the couch every time he visited, and always found the trolls in different formations.

In 1983, King Carl XVI Gustof made Garbo a Commander of the Swedish Order of the North Star.
