Born in Queenstown, New Zealand, in 1929, Annette Baier earned her bachelors and masters degrees in philosophy at the University of Otago, and her B. Phil. at Oxford University. She has taught at the universities of Aberdeen, Auckland, and Sydney and at Carnegie-Mellon University. Baier is now Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh.
