A collection of numerous essays drawn from de Certeau’s writings, Heterologies illustrates the diverse concerns that inform his work. Each essay examines and questions the bases surrounding contemporary reorganization.

Michel de Certeau, who dies in 1986, taught French and comparative literatutre at the University of California at San Diego and was director of studies at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

Brian Massumi is the author of A User’s Guide to Capitalism and Schizophrenia: Deviations from Deleuze and Guattari and, with Kenneth Dean, of First and Last Emperors: The Body of the Despot and the Absolute State.

Wlad Godzich is professor of emergent literatures at the University of Geneva and is coeditor with Jochen Schulte-Sasse of the Theory and History of Literature series.
