In addition to his poetry, Mr. Whittemore has written two volumes of criticism and essays and he is the author of the pamphlet Little Magazines in the series of University of Minnesota Pamphlets in American Writers. He has been a consultant in poetry to the Library of Congress and the editor of two literary magazines, Furioso and the Carleton Miscellany. Formerly on the faculty of Carleton College, he is now Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Maryland and a former literary editor of the New Republic.
