Simon O’Toole

Simon O’Toole was the pseudonym for James Hepburn, among whose other books are The Author’s Empty Purse and the Rise of the Literary Agent (1968), Critic Into Anti-Critic (1984), Letters of Arnold Bennett (4 vols. 1966-1986), and A Book of Scattered Leaves: Poetry of Poverty in Broadside Ballads of Nineteenth Century England (2000-2002). Hepburn is the Charles A. Dana Professor of English, Emeritus at Bates College, Lewiston, Maine.
