Frederic K. Butters was a professor of botany at the University of Minnesota. He is co-author (with C. Otto Rosendahl) of A Guide to the Spring Flowers of Minnesota (1936) published by the University of Minnesota Press.

Olga Lakela was a professor of biology at the State Teachers College, Duluth, Minnesota. She is the author of A Flora of Northeastern Minnesota (1965) published by the University of Minnesota Press.
